NNEKA EDWARDS-JACKSON, MD

CEO & DIRECTOR

Dr. Edwards-Jackson is a pediatric hospitalist who is currently based in Phoenix, AZ but picks up shifts as a moonlighter at both Phoenix Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.  She received her medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, residency training from the University of California San Francisco, and Masters of Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She worked at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe, Malawi from September 2015 to December 2016, through an affiliation with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and later Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation of Malawi. She hopes to use her past experience and connections in Malawi to help KOM stay true to the vision and mission of the organization.

JOSHUA GRAHE, DO

DIRECTOR

Dr. Joshua Grahe is a general pediatrician working in the Emergency Department at Monroe Carrell Jr Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. He studied at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed his pediatrics residency at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, PA. After finishing residency, he and his wife Yasmin Bahora, DO spent one year, from June 2014 to June 2015, working clinically in Lilongwe, Malawi at Kamuzu Central Hospital and teaching students for the Malawi College of Medicine in conjunction with SEED/Global Health Service Partnership. Josh is very excited to be involved with KOM with the prospect of fostering programs that directly impact the care at KCH.

YASMIN BAHORA, DO

DIRECTOR

Dr. Yasmin Bahora is a general pediatrician that works at Monroe Carrell Jr Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt at the outpatient clinic in Smyrna, TN. She completed medical school at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and pediatric residency at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, PA. After completing residency, she and her husband, Dr. Josh Grahe, volunteered from June 2014 to June 2015 with SEED/Global Health Service Partnership where they provided clinical care and taught medical and clinical officer students at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe, Malawi. Yasmin hopes to use her experience in Lilongwe to help KOM provide much-needed support to facilitate the care of the children at Kamuzu Central Hospital.

RAYMOND GRAHE

DIRECTOR, TREASURER

Mr. Grahe was the Chief Executive Officer of the Trivergent Health Alliance MSO, a $250 million organization with 1,150 employees serving Frederick Memorial Hospital, Western Maryland Health System and Meritus Medical Center. Formerly, he was the Senior Vice President – Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of the Meritus Medical Center, Inc. and was responsible for all financial services of Meritus Health Inc. He joined the administrative staff of Washington County Hospital in 1979. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants and a fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. Mr. Grahe is a member of the Board of and past Chairman of the Board of Directors of Maryland Physicians Care, a Medicaid HMO with 200,000 members statewide. Mr. Grahe is a past member of The Columbia Bank Board, past chairman of the Colonial Regional Alliance Board of Managers and past Treasurer of the TriState Health Partners Inc. Board of Directors. Mr. Grahe was a member of various committees of the Maryland Hospital Association for many years, largely on the finance committee and the rate negotiation committees. Mr. Grahe received a B.S. from the University of Maryland and an M.B.A. from Loyola College.

Rachel Bensman

RACHEL BENSMAN, MD

DIRECTOR

Dr. Rachel Bensman is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, where she completed Medicine-Pediatrics residency and a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Global Health. Over the course of her training, she has spent about two years in Malawi learning, teaching, and working with local partners to improve clinical care and medical education, primarily through a capacity-building partnership with Kamuzu Central Hospital. Additionally, she conducts research to better inform acute care for Malawian children hospitalized with serious infections. She is passionate about conducting Global Health efforts in ethical and sustainable ways and improving cross-cultural competency, including having achieved proficiency in the Chichewa language herself. She is driven by the ethical imperative to reduce disparities in health outcomes globally and the belief that all children should have access to high quality, life-saving medical care, and she hopes that KoM can bring this vision closer to reality.

CHARLES SCHUBERT, MD

DIRECTOR

As professor of clinical pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, in the. Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Dr. Schubert has always had an interest in delivering quality medical care to patients living in poverty both in the United States and Africa. He was one of the founders of Crossroad Health Center, a faith-based community health center located in one of Cincinnati’s poorest communities. His time in Africa included a yearlong stint at a mission hospital in rural Zambia where he not only provided clinical care but worked with staff in the area of leadership development. As Director of Global Health for the Pediatric Residency Program, he has developed curriculum in global health for the residency program as well as directing the Global Health Track for pediatric residents. Nationally, he was a co-founder and past co-director of Global Health Pediatric Education Group at the Association of Pediatric Program Directors. He has also developed a partnership with Kamuzu Central Hospital in Malawi to build clinical capacity, augment medical education, and develop collaborative research.

MEGAN COE, RN

DIRECTOR

Megan Coe is a registered nurse with experience in pediatric critical care and is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Washington. She completed a BA in International Studies and Sociology at Johns Hopkins University and an MSN at the University of Virginia. Megan worked in Malawi from 2014-2018, first as a lecturer at Kamuzu College of Nursing through the Global Health Service Partnership (Seed/Peace Corps) and then piloting a clinical specialist role in the KCH Pediatrics ward through Seed Global Health. She also has experience coordinating programs for non-profit organizations and conducting public health research.

ANDREW EKERLE

DIRECTOR

Andrew is Fine Arts Educator that has lived and worked in Lilongwe, Malawi and Gaborone, Botswana. While living in those communities, he worked on various projects directed towards improving the living situations of those in smaller communities as well as the overall health care of children in Malawi. I currently reside in Northern Kentucky and teaching Visual Art at the secondary level.

MARGOT ANDERSON, MD

DIRECTOR

Margot Anderson is a pediatrician with specialization in infectious disease and hospital medicine.  She currently works for Tulane School of Medicine at Children’s Hospital New Orleans. She has worked in Laos, Eritrea, and Liberia; but the busiest hospital she has ever worked in was Kamuzu Central Hospital in Malawi. She worked at KCH for 2 years (2013-2015) via the SEED/Global Health Service Partnership, and has since been back several times to volunteer for one to two months at a time.
